AI control, goalie lock and spectator matches
ReviewedTape to Tape Campaign is not established as a fully simulated management mode. In the current discussion, a player says you still control a character; Shozen suggests playing as the goalie as the closest workaround. For an actual AI-vs-AI match, the same reply points to Play Now instead.
Goalie lock and spectating solve different tasks. Selecting the goalie still gives you a player role. It does not turn your campaign into an idle or automatic battle system.

Choose the behavior you want
| Goal | Source-supported direction | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Manage a campaign while AI plays every match | No complete Campaign autobattle option is established by these reports. | Do not buy into a guaranteed idle-management feature. |
| Control fewer skaters yourself | Use the reported goalie-position assignment. | You still control the goalie. |
| Watch two CPU teams | Use Play Now’s reported AI-vs-AI capability. | This is not automatic Campaign progression. |
The reported PC goalie-assignment sequence
- Use your controller’s Start/pause action to reach Assign Controller, following Shozen’s release-period example.
- In that assignment screen, the author says to move right and use Y to set the position to G. Those are the source’s controller labels, not a universal keyboard or console mapping.
- Check that the displayed role is G before resuming, then confirm you control the goalie rather than a skater.
- If your labels or platform differ, follow the actual displayed position controls rather than entering the letter Y as a guessed keyboard command.
Keep a CPU exhibition separate from your run
Shozen explicitly reports the ability to start AI-vs-AI in Play Now. A current official-trailer commenter also describes watching two CPUs as an option, but that comment is supporting context, not a tested menu walkthrough.
Choose the non-campaign format when spectating is the goal. The source does not spell out every CPU-team selection label, so this page does not invent an exact selector or claim that the goalie-assignment sequence is how to create two CPU teams.
A Switch request is not a Switch confirmation
A recent YouTube commenter asks for goalie/player lock on Switch. That establishes interest, not the feature’s absence or presence on that platform. The concrete sequence above comes from the PC discussion and is not translated into an unverified Joy-Con shortcut.
If fully automated Campaign matches are essential to your intended playstyle, these sources do not establish that capability. A goalie role or CPU exhibition is a different alternative, not proof of full run simulation.
Check the result
You can distinguish a human-controlled goalie, a CPU exhibition and the unproven fully automated Campaign; the reported goalie attempt is successful only when your own role changes to G.
