Fix the reported Tape to Tape left-stick binding issue
ReviewedIn Tape to Tape, one PC player lost left-stick movement after swapping wired Xbox controllers during the game. The D-pad still worked, and Windows still detected the stick. The original poster confirmed that editing a binding in the game’s menu and then restoring defaults fixed it.
Use this as a focused binding-profile check for the same symptom. It is not evidence that every disconnected controller, Steam Playtest build or other device has the same cause.

Separate game bindings from missing device input
| Observation | What it suggests checking |
|---|---|
| D-pad works and Windows detects the stick | The reported in-game binding refresh is a reasonable next check. |
| Windows does not detect the stick | This specific report does not establish a fix for your device/connection problem. |
| Only the tutorial skill prompt is stuck | Use the tutorial-stall branch; it is a different action and symptom. |
| The problem began after changing physical controllers | Include the swap and wired Xbox context when comparing this report. |
Refresh the in-game bindings carefully
- Record your custom bindings before resetting anything, because restoring defaults can replace them.
- Open the game’s control/binding menu using the input that still works. The report does not name a universal submenu path.
- Edit a binding, then use the menu’s restore-defaults action, following the original poster’s successful sequence.
- Test left-stick movement in the game again. A moving Windows input indicator alone is not the completion test.
- If movement returns, reapply needed custom bindings deliberately and test once more.
If the same sequence does not restore movement
Keep the failure report specific: wired or wireless, controller model, whether you swapped it during the session, whether the D-pad works, whether the OS sees the stick, and the result after the in-game reset.
The source does not justify deleting saves, editing configuration files, disabling every Steam Input option or installing a third-party remapper. Do not turn a narrow confirmed workaround into a bundle of unrelated changes.
A historical playtest is a separate build
Search results can mix old playtest-controller problems with the released game. Confirm that you launched your intended current Steam build before assuming the fixes are interchangeable. The Early Access/1.0 guide covers that version distinction.
Check the result
Left-stick movement works inside the game after the binding refresh, or your unresolved report records the matching checks and result.
