Choose a mode, difficulty or platform

Play Tape to Tape without starting a campaign run

The short answer

In Tape to Tape, choose Play Now or Tournament if you want hockey outside the roguelite campaign. The developer explicitly named those alternatives when asked about modes without roguelite features. Campaign is the route-building, team-building run that ends when you lose.

Choose by the structure you want to play, not by assuming a lower difficulty removes the campaign. A quick match, a tournament and a campaign run solve different session-length goals.

Choose the mode before changing its options

  1. Open the game’s mode menu and select the match structure you want.
  2. For a standalone match or tournament, review the available teams and settings in that mode.
  3. Use the setting that applies to that mode; the Game Options difficulty and the Campaign setup difficulty are separate.
  4. Start one match to confirm you selected the intended format before organizing a longer session.

Tournament does not prove a season or franchise mode

Players asking for a season describe league schedules, persistent statistics and franchise-style progression. A tournament alternative does not by itself provide those features. Do not treat an old roadmap discussion as proof that a current menu contains a full season mode.

Likewise, playing outside the campaign does not establish native online matchmaking. For friends on Steam, use the separate co-op/Remote Play guide and its platform limits.

Current Steam players also answer the no-power-ups question with exhibition/custom tournaments, and the original asker acknowledges the answer. Exact toggle labels are not established here; the mode choice is the useful starting point.

Separate current modes from announced plans

The 1.0 announcement names additional Play Now modes and toggles, including Eliminator and 16-bit, as short-term plans. That is not a promise that every such option is already available in your installed version. Use the mode you can actually select.

Nintendo’s current listing confirms several local modes; the developer’s current reply confirms Play Now and Tournament. Neither source proves identical settings, player limits or menus across every platform.
