Choose the position before planning the chance

Identify the player occupying the intended defensive position and inspect their shooting attributes. Then name which teammate will carry or pass the puck to them. This separates the Squad objective from simply feeding whichever forward already scores most often.

Our suggested check is whether your intended finisher can receive the pass without leaving every other player committed to the attack. The growth target does not remove the need to survive the next possession.

Use a forward to create the defenseman's opportunity

1. In Edit Lineup, confirm the intended scorer is actually assigned to a defensive position and note the current Team OVR.
2. Advance possession with a forward and observe which defender approaches the puck carrier.
3. Look for the assigned defenseman with an available shooting lane, then pass when that opportunity exists.
4. Keep another player able to recover after a turnover instead of sending both defensemen deep on every attempt.
5. After scoring, verify the finisher's position and compare Team OVR with the earlier value. Check the stated condition rather than treating any team goal as completion.

If a goal does not show the expected result

First check who finished and where that player was assigned. A pass from a defenseman followed by a forward's goal is not the source's defenseman-scoring condition. If the assignment and scoring record match but the observed result differs, retain the version, lineup and before/after values when reporting it.
