Benchwarmers: choose and plan a quest
Plan Boring Dude’s eight-talent quest
ReviewedIn Tape to Tape, Boring Dude’s quest asks for eight talents at the same time. A current player reports succeeding with a randomly offered bench spot that granted a talent after wins, followed by an Infirmary trade that exchanged one talent for two random talents.
This is a way to recognize a promising run, not a guaranteed reward sequence. The player specifically described getting lucky. Eight talents obtained across your whole team, or over several separate runs, is not the same target.

Keep the count on Boring Dude
Begin with Boring Dude available for the attempt and read his quest text. Whenever a reward offers a talent, check which player receives it. A strong talent on another skater may help you win but does not automatically advance this character’s eight-talent goal.
Count the talents he currently holds after each change. Do not treat relics, abilities or the number of reward screens seen as equivalent to that count.
The successful community sequence
- Look for the kind of bench reward described by ska.one: a bench spot that grants a random talent after a win. Check the actual offer and which player receives its effect before using it for Boring Dude.
- Keep winning while the offer benefits the intended player. This is the reported source of additional talents, not a promise that the bench option appears on every route.
- At an Infirmary opportunity, inspect the offered exchange. The reported attempt received an offer to give up one talent and gain two random ones.
- Recount after the exchange. A one-for-two exchange can increase the count only as the resulting talents are actually retained and counted by the game.
- Complete the simultaneous eight-talent condition; do not assume the quest is done just because the run used the same two encounter types.
When the reward does not appear
The same player suggested a talent that keeps the player included in talent-reward choices as another aid. The thread does not give its exact current name, availability or a deterministic way to obtain it, so this guide does not invent a shopping or reroll route.
If the relevant offer never appears, preserve a sensible campaign build instead of abandoning the run to force an unsupported farming trick. Use the attempt to unlock or complete another goal, and recognize a better Boring Dude opportunity on a later run.
Check the condition after a trade
- Trading away a talent changes the current total; count what remains.
- A talent reward on a different character does not become Boring Dude’s talent.
- A relic or active ability is not automatically another talent.
- A source’s successful random sequence is not a reproducible seed or guaranteed map route.
Check the result
Boring Dude holds eight talents concurrently and your own quest/achievement record confirms completion.
