1.0 progression overhaul and CS13985 Squad-progression update.

What changed about progression in Tape to Tape 1.0?

The short answer

Tape to Tape: Version 1.0 removed the old puck currency and rebuilt progression around challenges and unlocks. Completing challenges can open players, Power-ups, Relics, Squads and Benchwarmers. Losing a run is therefore not a reason to keep searching for the old permanent-upgrade shop described by Early Access guides.

Separate this run's team from your future options

The official release notes distinguish building a team during a run from expanding the content available between runs. You hire players, choose a route and assemble effects during the campaign; challenges unlock additional options to use afterwards.

That is why a guide written around farming the removed currency can lead you in the wrong direction even if some of its hockey advice is still useful.

Give the next run a specific goal

Our suggested approach is to choose a goal you can actually act on. If you are losing to repeated passing attacks, practice defending the lane. If your attacks are mostly one-on-one rushes at the goalie, practice a receiving position and one-timer timing. If you want more campaign variety, choose a currently available Squad or a specific visible unlock challenge.

The current scoring discussion offers one concrete example: a player put Kowalski at center and used a Pro give-and-go pattern during a 20-goal run. That is a source-based scoring idea, not proof that every current challenge has the same requirement after the Squad patch.

Choose rewards that serve your team

Captain Camper recommends deciding which weakness or strength you are building around instead of selecting every reward in isolation. Their example is a team that keeps being knocked down: size, durability and checking can be a direction to consider, with tradeoffs.

The useful decision is to connect a reward to what your team is trying to do. The sources do not establish one universal best build or a guaranteed order of rewards.

Recheck old unlock lists after CS13985

The first post-launch Squad update made 16-Bit, Modern and Violence available by default and changed some other conditions. Do not plan a run around unlocking one of those three using an older list.

Random-reward challenge stories also need care. The reported Boring Dude eight-talent attempt depended on a fortunate bench reward and an Infirmary exchange. That is not a deterministic route this guide can promise you.

Do not plan a run around an unverified brawl trigger

If you have not seen a brawl, current player reports do not establish that you missed a required switch. Reports range from one fight over several campaign runs to several fights during one run. One player recalls an invitation prompt at a faceoff; follow the prompt shown by your own game when one appears.

Players speculate about injuries, checking and score differences, but the thread does not verify a trigger formula. A brawl guide that promises a fight after a fixed number of hits would go beyond this evidence.

Keep the useful part of an older guide

An Early Access guide is not automatically wrong about every hockey concept. However, 1.0 also changed controls, AI, goalies, opponents and campaign systems. Use a dated source for its stated version, and prefer current evidence for an instruction that depends on those systems.

This site's passing lesson is based on a 1.0 discussion and an adoption report. It does not ask you to recreate an old permanent-stat grind before the lesson becomes useful.

Check the result

You can tell the removed currency loop apart from current unlock challenges and choose a concrete practice or unlock goal for your next run.
